The Kauai Interscholastic Federation seems to have the Pearl City Chargers number after Kapaa's 30-22 win over the Chargers last night in the first round of the HHSAA First Hawaiian Bank Division 2 Championship Tournament played in Lihue, Kauai at Vidinha Stadium. It was the third, first round win over a visiting Pearl City Chargers team by a KIF football team in the last five years.
After going into the half trailing Pearl City 22-14, the Warriors outscored the Chargers with 16 unanswered second half points (all scored in the 3rd quarter) to erase an 8 point first half deficit and win by 8 at 30-22.
The Chargers won the battle in net yardage outgaining the Warriors 340-234. Pearl City dominated Kapaa through the air 256-30 while the Warriors won the ground game 204-84.
Pearl City Chargers QB Jordan Taamu commanded the airwaves completing 28 of 48 for 256 yards with 3 touchdowns and 1 INT. Taamu also led the Chargers ground game picking up 78 yards on 15 carries.
Dominic Maneafaiga led the Chargers receiving core with 117 yards on 6 catches and 1 touchdown followed by Israel Kaleo, 8 catches, 52 yards and 1 touchdown; Garrett Kanamu, 50 yards on 5 catches; Jarrett Sanchez, 2 catches for 15 yards; Keelan Domingo-Ishikawa, 5 catches for 11 yards with 1 touchdown.
Kapaa's Shain Davis led all rushers with 102 yards on 10 carries with 2 touchdowns. Warriors QB Rudy Agoot picked up 33 yards on 11 carries with 1 touchdown.
Pearl City's season ended with the loss to Kapaa. The Warriors move on to the D2 state football semifinals against ILH Championand #2 ranked Iolani @ Iolani on Saturday, November 15, 2014 with kick off scheduled for 2:30pm.
#1 ranked Lahainaluna will take on KS-Hawaii in the other semifinal match-up on Saturday, November 15, 6:00pm at Maui's War Memorial Stadium. KS-Hawaii defeated OIA D2 Champion Nanakuli last night on the Big Island 42-20.
