PEACHES Robotics scores big in district and state First Lego League tournaments

 

The 2014-2015 Pearl City Highlands Elementary School robotics program is off to a great start after winning several awards during the months of November and December in the First Lego League District Tournament and State Tournament competition.

Submitted by Mr. Gary Kanamori, Pearl City Highlands Elementary School 5th grade teacher and robotics coach:

Our school sent 2 teams to the First Lego League State Tournament this past Saturday Dec. 13, 2014. Here is some information:

District Tournament Mililani November 8, 2014

Our school won 2 awards (Core Values award and Robot Performance award), earning the top two scores of the competition

First Lego League State Tournament December 13, 2014

Our school got an award for 2nd place in Robot performance. Also, both teams scored in the top 5 out of 48 teams during the competition. 

Our Junior FLL robotics teams also participated in the event by presenting their projects to the public. Their project needed to be a research project and a moving mechanical display along with it.

The kids worked really hard to get where they were. Coming in at 6:30 in the morning to practice. Practicing from 2:00 to 4:30 every day. Also coming in during their fall break to practice and work on their projects!
