Pearl City pulled out a hard fought 46-44 win over Waianae in OT on Saturday in a classic and thrilling  OIA D1 West boys varsity basketball match up played at Pearl City High School.

Pearl City entered the fourth period trailing Waianae by three points at 24-21. The Chargers outscored the Seasiders 19-16 in the fourth quarter capped by Tylor Canon's 3-point bomb from the left side of the arc with time running out to tie the game at 40-40 and send the game into overtime.

In overtime the teams battled for the lead with Pearl City coming out on top with key baskets that included a 3-pointer by Gilbert Tapat, a basket by big man Garrett Kanamu and the final point of the ball game scored by Tapat at the free throw line.

Waianae had a chance to tie the game after Tyger Rohr was fouled in the act of shooting and went to the line shooting three with 7.8 seconds left on the clock in overtime. Rohr dropped 2 of 3 to pull within one point of Pearl City at 45-44.

The Chargers played tough defense and were propelled by hot hands that drilled three point shots in the fourth period and in OT.

"We had three stops on defense," said Chargers Head Coach Lionel Villarmia. "We got away from the pressure and just played relaxed. We played tough defense and slowed them down. On offense down the line to get us to overtime we hit three's."

Waianae's Natano Namulauti scored 8 points with two 3-pointers. Cameron Palmeteer scored a game high 18 points for Waianae.
