Pearl City’s Abe, Ford, Lee strike gold at OIA wrestling championships

The Pearl City Chargers boys and girls wrestling teams competed over the weekend at the Oahu Interscholastic Association Varsity Wrestling Championships at Leilehua High School.

The Chargers brought home three individual championship titles on Saturday during the tournament championship finals with Mikayla Abe (107 lbs.) and Alexis Ford (117 lbs.) winning gold for the Lady Chargers, and on the boys side, Maui Lee captured gold in the 182 lbs. weight class.

Campbell High School captured both the boys and girls team championships.

The Chargers head off to this weekend's HHSAA State Varsity Wrestling Boys and Girls Team & individual Championships to be held at the Blaisdell Arena on Friday, March 6 and Saturday, March 7.

Maui battled Campbell High School's Micah Tynanes Perez for the 182 lbs. championship title. 

Maui won by decision 3-1. With emotions riding high, Maui fought through an injury entering

the title match to bring home the GOLD!
