Pearl City Chargers won three individual championship titles yesterday, March 7 at the HHSAA State Wrestling Championships held at the Neil Blaisdell Arena.
Alexis Ford defeated Roosevelt’s Kristen Kojima (D: 1-0) to win the 117 Lbs. individual championship title. Asia Lien Evans defeated Kahuku’s Anela Wasson (D: 4-1) to capture the 127 Lbs. championship.
Jackson Fuamatu outscored Campbell’s James Sullivan (D: 8-6) in an extra period thriller to bring home the 220 Lbs. championship title.
The Chargers actually advanced six wrestlers into Saturday's championship round finals. Mikayla Abe finished runner-up in the 107 Lbs. championship to Lahainaluna's Alexis Encinas (Fall 1:37). Netanya Kang was defeated by Lahainaluna's Breanna Dudoit-Vasquez (D: 6-4) in the 138 Lbs. championship match.
Maui Lee finished runner-up in the 182 Lbs. championship title match to Kamehameha – Kapalama's Joseph Hoshino (D:3-1).
Jacqueline Fuamatu defeated Aiea's Gezlen Ragudos (Fall 1:41) to place 5th in the 145 Lbs. weight class.
Trevor Alvarado finished in 6th place behind Kapolei's Rodman Salangdron (D: 8-1) at 145 Lbs.
Lahainaluna High School from the Maui Interscholastic League captured both the boys and girls team championships.
The Lady Chargers finished in 5th place in the team standings while the defending state champion Charger boys finished out of the top 10 in 11th place.
