Waianae beats Pearl City 5-4 for first regular season win

The Waianae Seariders picked up their first win of the regular season on Saturday after defeating the visiting Pearl City Chargers 5-4 in Oahu Interscholastic Association D1 West varsity baseball played at Waianae High School.

Waianae moved to 1-6 in league play while Pearl City pulled even at 3-3.

Jerzy Ramento earned the win for the Seariders. Ramento allowed four runs on seven hits with one strikeout and five walks.

Trestan Nakamura took the loss for the Chargers. Nakamura allowed five runs on ten hits with two strikeouts and no walks in 3 1/3 innings. Sanyo Lo and Chevy Sumile pitched in relief for the Chargers.

After trailing the Seariders at 5-2 entering the top of fifth inning, the Chargers rallied, scoring two runs on Sanyo Lo's two-RBI double with two outs that scored Tyler Kushima and Matt Tsutomi to close within one run of the Seariders at 5-4. Kushima led off the inning with a single followed by Tsutomi who got on base with a bunt single putting runners on first and second. Next batter Christian Onomura moved the runners up with a sac bunt. Dane Kaneshiro lined a pitch back to the pitcher for the second out. Sanyo Lo stepped up and drilled a single past the second baseman into center field scoring Kushima and Tsutomi. Next batter Shaye Higa grounded out to the shortstop who went to second for the third out. 

Waianae held Pearl City scoreless in both the sixth and seventh innings for the win.

Pearl City travels to Waipahu (2-4) on Wednesday, April 1, with first pitch scheduled for 3:00pm.

Waianae will host Campbell on Saturday, April 4 at 11:00am. Campbell (6-1) dropped into second place in league standings after a tough 2-1 (8 innings) loss on Saturday to Mililani (7-0) who took over sole possesion of first place in the division.
