Biegel pitches Kihei past Pearl City 8-5 at the Hawaii LL 9-10 year olds state championship tourney

Kihei Maui starting pitcher Koenig Biegel lead his team over Pearl City 8-5 on Saturday at the Hawaii Little League 9 &10 Year Old State Championship Tournament played at Central Oahu Regional Park (CORP) in Waipio.

Biegel pitched five innings to earn the win. Dustin Weiss picked up the save in relief of Biegel.

Asher Kwon got the start for Pearl City. Kwon pitched into the fifth inning before being relieved by Drew Boyles with one out and the game tied at 5-5.

In the bottom of the third inning, Gavin Ainoa hit an in-the-park 3-run homerun that erased a 5-1 Kihei lead and tied the game at 5-5.

In the top of the sixth inning, Kihei broke the 5-5 tie after Luke Alwood hit a lead-off ground-rule double to right field and later scored on Koenig Biegel's RBI double.  Kihei scored two more runs in the inning to take an 8-5 lead. Kihei held Pearl City scoreless in the bottom of the sixth inning for the win.

Kihei moves on to Monday's championship game. Pearl City dropped into the tournament loser’s bracket and will play Hilo, Sunday morning at 9:00am. The winner will advance to the championship game, but will be tasked in beating Kihei twice for the championship title. First game is scheduled for 1:00pm. "IF" game at 4:00pm.
