Six-run, seventh inning rally lifts Pearl City over Waialua 8-5

Pearl City beat Waialua 8-5 in extra innings on Friday, July 3 in the first round of the Hawaii Little League District 7 Majors Championship Tournament played at Central Oahu Regional Park in Waipio.

Pearl City rallied with six runs in the top of the seventh inning to break a 2-2 tie and go ahead of Waialua 8-2. Trevor Yoneyama put Pearl City into lead with a bases loaded 2-RBI single that scored Taryn Fujioka and Taylor Au to break the tie at 4-2. Keaolani Takemura scored Pearl City's final run of the inning and the ball game on a pass ball at the plate.

Waialua battled back scoring three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning. Mana Benz hit a 2-run homerun to centerfield driving in Dylan Muniz to move with four runs of the lead at 8-4. Zane Dobecki scored Waialua's fifth and final run from third base on a wild throw at first. 

Micah Obara earned the win in relief for Pearl City. Easton Fujioka pitched the final out in the bottom of the seventh inning for the save.

Pearl City will play the winner of Saturday's (July 4) Waipio vs. Ewa game on Sunday at 9:00am.

Waialua was scheduled to play Waipahu in the loser's bracket on Saturday at 12:00pm.

Waipahu dropped their first round opener on Friday to Ewa 12-2.
