On Tuesday, July 21st Pearl City Little League Juniors was crowned the 2015 Hawaii State Little League Junior Division Champions defeating Kaneohe 10-4 in 7 innings.

Pearl City started Cade Halemanu on the mound for this championship game.  Cade completed 5 innings of pitching, striking out 8 batters while walking 5 with 1 hit.  Cade gave PC a healthy lead of 10-4 heading into the 6th inning when he was relieved by teammate pitcher Joey “Cello” Casarez.  Casarez closed the game allowing only 1 run off 1 base hit, 2 walks, and finally ending the game with a strike out of the last Kaneohe batter.

Pearl City quickly jumped to a lead of 3-0 after 1 inning of play with hits from Rayson Carriaga, Cade Halemanu, and Shawn Iwane.  Kaneohe battled back in the top of the 4th tying the game at 3-3.  Then, PC again regained the lead 6-3 in the bottom of the 4th with the hot bats of Carter Hirano, Rayson Carriaga, and Mayson Foumai.  Pearl City continued to widen its lead to 10-3 in the bottom of the 5th inning scoring another 4 runs with the bat power of Carter Hirano, Chaesten Chon, Cade Halemanu, and Christian Pacrem.  Kaneohe scored their last run in the top of the 6th inning, which is where the game score ended 10-4.

Pearl City’s 2015 Hawaii State Little League tournament title was truly a team effort.  Every player contributed to the win in some way or form through this double elimination tournament.  Whether it was pitching batting, defense, getting on base from base on balls, pinch running, putting the ball in play to advance runners, the players all performed well and contributed when needed.   Coach Maldonado and his coaching staff’s dedication, positive and motivating style of coaching was also undeniably a key factor to the team’s success.   We would like to thank all the Pearl City friends and families that came out to support our team throughout the District and State Tournament!

Pearl City will represent Hawaii in the 2015 Little League Junior Division Western Regional Tournament in Vancouver Washington, August 5-12.

Congratulations to the 2015 Pearl City Little League Junior All-Star Team!!!
