Pearlridge Rotarians kick-off 2015-16 Dictionary 5000 Project at Pearl City Elementary

The Rotary Club of Pearlridge (RCOP) visited Pearl City Elementary School on Tuesday to deliver free dictionaries to third grade students as a part of Rotary Internationals Annual Dictionary 5000 Project. It was the first of 12 visits and presentations scheduled for Pearl City and Aiea third grade classrooms.

On Tuesday, RCOP Board Members, Dick Mosko, Tony Lorenzo and me, hand delivered 61 dictionaries to the third grade students and their teachers during a presentation in the school library.

During the 2014-2015 school year, 845 students and their teachers received free dictionaries donated by the RCOP. The RCOP is expecting to deliver close to 900 dictionaries for the 2015-2016 school year.

Good Citizen Awards

With each school visit, the students will be introduced to the Rotary Club's "Four Way Test" that will help guide them toward being good citizens. Each dictionary includes the "Four Way Test" Principles for the students to study and practice.

"Four Way Test"

1.  Is it the truth;
2.  Is it fair to all concerned,
3.  Will it bring good will and better friendships,
4.  Will it be beneficial to all concerned.

At the end of the school year, teachers will select a student from their third grade classes who best exemplified being a good citizen. Each student will be presented a $50.00 check at each schools end of the school year awards assemblies.
