The Friends of Pearl City Public Library is currently in need of a new board upon the retirement of most of its members: the President, Vice-President, Secretary, Treasurer, and Director positions. Friends members advocate and raise money to support their library branch. They do this by accepting and processing donations, oversee booksales, manage funds, fund programs and project requests from the Pearl City Public Library, and conduct quarterly meetings. Examples of support include providing funding for Summer Reading Program incentives and other library programs, library beautification and upgrades, and much more. Friends do not supplant State funding. They provide the extras! Qualifications for board positions depend on the position and may be leadership skills, organizational skills, the ability to manage funds for a small non-profit organization, oral and written communication skills, and a strong love of libraries.
Interested individuals may attend a meeting on Tuesday, December 15 at 5:30pm at Pearl City Public Library. Vicky Bowie, Branch Manager of Pearl City Public Library, and Nainoa Mau, Executive Director of the Friends of the Library of Hawai’I, will explain what is required for the new board, as a Friends member, and help determine board positions. Anyone interested in volunteering either as a board member or as a Friends of Pearl City Public Library member is welcome to attend and find out how they can contribute and support the Pearl City Public Library.
