Uta Matsuri Musical Feb. 27, 28 at the Pearl City Cultural Center

The “Uta Matsuri” is an activity of the Pearl City High School Music Performing Arts Learning Center. Begun in 1993 under the direction of the late Lorraine Kaneshiro, it continued under the stewardship of Michael Nakasone, and is now managed by Mrs. Jenny Watanabe and Mr. Chadwick Kamei. The Uta Matsuri is a musical rendition featuring a Japanese Stage/Jazz Band and singers who are performing in the Enka style. More than just a showcase of very fine talent, the program provides a valuable learning experience to students from around the island. The band roster draws its members from several different schools around Oahu. The Singers are students and experienced adults who have been singing for many years. The dancers are students and professionals from the Hanayagi Mitsusumi Dance Studio. Guest artists Hawaii Matsuri Taiko round out a program that is culturally rich and diverse.
