McKinley held off Pearl City 57-50 on Friday in the quarterfinals of the Oahu Interscholastic Association Division 1 Varsity Boys Basketball Championship Tournament played at Pearl City High School.
McKinley's Huthifah Abdel Jawad scored a game high 24 points with 2 – 3 pointers followed by Dan Villejo 11 points, 1-3PM and Jeremy Coloyan 10 points, 1-3PM.
Sape Tupuola pumped in 19 points with 2 – 3 pointers to lead the Chargers. Ryan Yamamoto 12 points, 3-3PM and Pierce McMoore 8 points, 2-3PM were 2 and 3 in scoring for the Chargers.
McKinley moves on to the OIA championship semifinals and will face the Kaiser Cougars on Tuesday, February 9, 5:30pm at McKinley High School.
Pearl City will play Kahuku on Tuesday, February 9 at Kahuku High School for 5th place in the championship tournament and a berth in the HHSAA State Championship Tournament. Tip off on Tuesday is set for 6:00pm.
