Pearl City opened the 2016 OIA Western Division Varsity Baseball regular season with a 4-1 victory over Waianae on Wednesday at Waianae High School.
Sam Prentice earned the win for Pearl City. Prentice allowed no runs, 4 hits with 7 strikeouts and 7 walks.
Matt Yokota and Carson Okada pitched 2/3 of an inning each in relief for the Chargers.
Thomas Kaauwai took the loss for Waianae allowing 3 runs on 4 hits with 2 strikeouts and 2 walks. Quinn Searle pitched 1 2/3 innings in relief for the Seariders.
Colby Hirano had a hot bat at the plate for the Chargers hitting 2-3 with a RBI and 1 run scored. Matt Yokota, 2-4, 2 RBI, Kaleb Nishijo 1-3, 2B, Sam Prentice 1-1, Chase Yoshida 1-1, run, also contributed at the plate for the Chargers.
Waianae's Kaleo Chun went 2-2 with a double and one run scored. Drayden Coyaso 2-3, Colttin Nash-Santiago 1-3, run, Austin Keliinoi Westbrook 1-2, rounded out the Seariders production at the plate.
Pearl City (1-0) gets back on the diamond on Saturday, March 5 against Campbell (0-1) at Hans L "Orange Park in Waipahu. First pitch is scheduled for around 6:00pm following the first game of an OIA doubleheader at Hans L 'Orange Park.

Okada shut down the Seariders recording the final two outs of
the ball game in the bottom of the seventh nning to earn the save.
