Darley’s King of the Hill in Pearl City’s 7-0 shut-out win over Mililani

The Pearl City Chargers traveled to Mililani on Wednesday to take on the Trojans in an OIA Western Division varsity baseball showdown and came away with an impressive 7-0 shut-out victory behind the arm of Trenton Darley and the explosive bat of Matt Yokota.

Darley was a master on the mound for the Chargers pitching a complete game, seven inning shut-out to earn the win for Pearl City. Darley allowed no runs, on two hits, with one strikeout and three walks.

Matt Yokota was on fire at the plate slamming Mililani pitchers with a 3-5 performance that included two doubles, three RBI and two runs scored.

With the win Pearl City improved to a perfect 3-0 in league play. Mililani 2-1, suffered their first loss of the regular season.

Mililani starting pitcher Justin Ogasawara took the loss for the Trojans. Ogasawara pitched 3 1/3 innings allowing 6 runs on 6 hits with 3 strikeouts and 2 walks. Shane Griffin and Brennan Anzai pitched in relief for the Trojans.

Pearl City got on the scoreboard in the top of the first inning on a RBI single by Matt Yokota that scored Colby Hirano from third base. The Chargers scored two more runs in the inning on a 2-RBI double by Trenton Darley that scored Davin Kapuras and Matt Yokota. The Chargers took a 3-0 lead over the Trojans after a half an inning.

in the top of the third inning the Chargers picked up a run on a RBI double to center field with one out by Christian Onomura that scored Matt Yokota from third base.

The Chargers increased their lead over the Trojans to 6-0 in the top of the fourth inning on a bases loaded 2-RBI double into left field by Matt Yokota that scored Matt Aribal and Colby Hirano.

In the top of the seventh inning the Chargers scored their final run of the ball game on a RBI single by Colby Hirano that scored Dillion Kaneshiro from third to extend the Chargers lead to 7-0.

The Chargers played as a team in all aspects of the game. Darley's win was the second complete game in a row from the Chargers starting pitching rotation against top OIA Western Division competition. The Chargers also remain hot at the plate pounding out 10 hits against a tough Trojan pitching staff.. Congratulations!

Pearl City will host Aiea on Saturday, March 12 at 3:00pm. Mililani will host Waianae on Saturday, March 12 at 11:00am.
