Pearl City crushes Leilehua 12-1, Yokota 2-4, HR, 4 RBI

The Pearl City Chargers made their way home from Wahiawa yesterday afternoon a little earlier than expected after overwhelming the Leilehua Mules 12-1 in an OIA Western Division varsity baseball match-up that was called after five complete innings of play due to the 10-run mercy rule. The Chargers improved to a perfect 5-0 in league play while the Mules fell to 1-3.

The Chargers were firmly in control of the ball game after the first pitch with solid performances at the plate  from Matt Yokota who batted 2-4 with a homerun, 4 RBI, and 2 runs scored and Davin Kapuras who also had a hot bat for the Chargers hitting 2-3 with 3 RBI, and 1 run scored. Trestan Nakamura added an exclamation mark to the victory with a 2-RBI single in the top of the fifth inning that would enforce the 10-run mercy rule a half an inning later after five complete innings of play.

Trenton Darley picked up the win in another dominating performance on the mound for the Chargers. Darley pitched four complete innings allowing one run on two hits with six strikeouts. Dillin Hasegawa closed it out in the bottom of the fifth inning shutting down the Mules by allowing no runs, no hits, with one strikeout to earn the save.

Leilehua starting pitcher Christian Ontai suffered the loss for the Mules. Ontai allowed five runs on four hits with no strikeouts and three walks. Nolan Tumacder, Kawai Phifer, Jansen Dangaran and Raven Demmert pitched in relief for the Mules.

The Chargers return to action at home against Waipahu on Saturday, March 19, 3:00pm.
