Pearl City slides past Waianae 2-1

Colby Hirano scored from third base on an infield error in the bottom of the fifth inning to lift Pearl City over Waianae 2-1 on Wednesday in OIA Western Division varsity baseball played at Pearl City High School. It was the second win in the regular season for the Chargers (7-0) over the Seariders (1-5).

Hirano got hit by a pitch to lead off the bottom of the fifth inning. Hirano advanced to second base on sac ground out and took third base on a steal. Davin Kapuras hit a pop up behind the bag at second base that was dropped allowing Hirano to scoot home from third with the winning run.

Trenton Darley earned the win for the Chargers in relief of starter Sam Prentice. Darley entered the game in the top of the fifth inning with game tied at 1-1, the bases loaded, and two outs. Darley struck out the next batter to get the Chargers out of the jam. Darley pitched 2 1/3 innings allowing one hit, with four strikeouts and a walk. Sam Prentice pitched 4 2/3 innings allowing one run on one hit with three strikeouts and seven walks.

Tavita Lalau had a solid pitching performance for Seariders in the loss to the Chargers allowing two runs on four hits with two strikeouts in six complete innings.

Pearl City will get back on the diamond on Wednesday, March 30 against Campbell at home with first pitch scheduled for 3:00pm. The Chargers beat Campbell 4-2 in their first regular season match-up on March 5 at Hans L 'Orange Park in Waipahu.
