Pearl City pounds Roosevelt 13-0 (F/5)

The Pearl City Chargers pounded Roosevelt 13-0 (F/5) in the OIA D1 Baseball Championship Tournament Quarterfinals played on Thursday at Pearl City High School. The Chargers jumped all over the Rough Riders scoring 13 runs on 13 hits while holding the Roosevelt battery to two hits.

The Chargers advance to Friday's championship semifinals and will play Kailua in second game of a semifinal doubleheader at Hans L 'Orange Park in Waipahu. Kailua defeated Campbell 10-3 on Thursday to advance. Kalani will take on Waipahu in the first semifinal match-up at 3:30pm with Pearl City vs. Kailua to follow. Waipahu beat Mililani 4-1 and Kalani defeated Kaiser 8-3 to advance to the semifinal round.

The Chargers got solid performances at the plate against a trio of Rough Rider pitchers. Davin Kapuras was a perfect 3-3 with a double, 2 RBI and 3 runs scored. Lead off hitter Colby Hirano batted 3-4 with a RBI and two runs scored. Sam Prentice 2-4, triple, RBI and 2 runs, Christian Onomura 2-2, RBI, 2 runs, and Kaleb Nishijo 1-2, double, 3 RBI all contributed to the Chargers offensive barrage on the Rough Riders defense.

Pearl City's Trenton Darley pitched three complete innings for the Chargers holding Roosevelt to no runs, no hits with three strikeouts and one walk. Torey Chun and Trestan Nakamura pitched the fourth and fifth innings in relief for the Chargers.

Matt Schewe took the loss for the Rough Riders. Schewe allowed ten runs on nine hits with two strikeouts and three walks in one complete inning. Chris Haida 1 1/3 and Shayne Cazinha 1 2/3 pitched in relief for the Rough Riders.

Pearl City scored three runs in the first inning, a huge seven run second inning, and three more runs in the third inning to pile up a 13-0 lead. The Chargers were held scoreless in the the bottom of the fourth inning.

Colby Hirano picked up the first hit of the ball game with a lead off single to

centerfield in the bottom of the first inning. Colby also scored the Chargers first

run of the ball game on a RBI double to left-centerfield by Davin Kapuras. Hirano

had a great day at the plate batting 3-4 with with a RBI and two runs scored.

Roosevelts Kekoa Lima recorded one the Rough Riders two hits in the ball game. Lima is
