Chargers take out Waiakea 4-2, advance to state baseball championship semifinals

The Pearl City Chargers battled past Waiakea 4-2 to advance to the semifinals of the Wally Yonamine Foundation Hawaii State Division I Baseball Championship Tournament played at Maui's Iron Maehara Stadium in Wailluku.

Pearl City's Carson Okada went the distance this afternoon to earn the win for the Chargers. Okada pitched seven complete innings allowing two runs, six hits with one strikeout and one walk.

David Nakamura took the loss for Waiakea pitching four innings while allowing two runs, two hits with one strikeout and one walk. Makoa Andres pitched three innings in relief allowing two hits, two runs with one strikeout.

Pearl City's Christian Onomura batted 2-3 with a double and a run scored. Matt Yokota went 1-4 with 2 runs scored. Trenton Darley batted 1-1 with a RBI. Colby Hirano batted 1-3, triple.

Waiakea's Trayden Tamiya batted 1-2 with a run scored. Makoa Andres 1-1, RBI

The Chargers (16-1) await the winner of this afternoon's 4:15pm quarterfinal match-up between #1 seed Mid Pacific and Mililani.

Pearl City will play the winner of Mid Pacific/Mililani tomorrow at 4:15pm in the first game of the doubleheader semifinals.

Campbell blanked OIA Champion Kailua 5-0 today to advance to the semifinals. Campbell will play the winner of tonight's quarterfinal nightcap between #2 Baldwin and Waipahu on Friday with first pitch scheduled for 7:00pm.
