Pearl City blows past Nanakuli 17-6

Pearl City blew past Nanakuli 17-6 in the quarterfinals of the Hawaii Little League 9-10 District 7 Championship Tournament played on Friday, June 10, at Central Oahu Regional Park (CORP) in Waipio. Pearl City advanced in the championship tournament with the win and will take on Waipio on Sunday, June 12 at CORP with first pitch scheduled for 10:00am.

Pearl City scored two runs in the top of the first inning to take a 2-0 lead. Pearl City’s Logan Honma led off the game with a single and hustled to second base to get into in scoring position. Next batter Jesse Villaron drove in Honma with a one out RBI single to right field. Villaron advanced to second and third on a couple pass balls at the plate and would take advantage of another pass ball to score putting Pearl City up 2-0 heading to the bottom of the inning.

Nanakuli came right back in bottom of the first inning to tie the game up at 2-2. Nanakuli tied the game on two runs and two hits with one runner left on base in the inning. Nanakuli held Pearl City scoreless in the top of the second inning and went on to score a single run in the bottom of the inning on a pass ball at the plate to take a 3-2 lead after two complete innings.

Pearl City regained the lead scoring three runs in the top of the third to take a 5-3 lead. Pearl City added two more runs in the top of the fourth inning and exploded with eight runs in the top of the fifth inning to take a commanding 15-3 lead heading to the bottom of the fifth. Nanakuli never gave up, pushing across three runs in the bottom of the fifth to make the score 15-6 after five complete innings. Pearl City tacked on a couple more runs in the top of the of sixth and shut down Nanakuli in bottom half inning for the 17-6 quarterfinal win.
