Hawaiian Electric:
Hawaiian Electric has donated more than $48,000 in total to several Oʻahu nonprofit community organizations as part of the company’s 2016 second quarter corporate contributions. “These community groups contribute to the safety, social and economic welfare of the communities they serve, while inspiring a sense of civic pride in residents and businesses alike,” said Lori Hoo, Hawaiian Electric community relations manager. “We support their efforts and the spirit of community they advance.”
• Ewa Emergency Preparedness Committee, comprised of local volunteers working to prepare the community for hazardous events, will use the donation for Get Ready Ewa Beach Emergency Preparedness Fair on Sept. 10 at Ewa Makai Middle School.
• Ewa Puʻuloa Outrigger Canoe Club has perpetuated the culture of Hawaiian outrigger canoe paddling since 1998, and will use the funds for the 1st Annual Keiki ‘Ohana Historical 5K Run/Walk & Hoʻolauleʻa on Aug. 13 at Puʻuloa Beach Park.
• Lanikai Athletic Club provides character building through volleyball skills training, and will use Hawaiian Electric’s donation for the T2 Turtle Bay Volleyball Tournament on July 9.
• Kalaeloa Heritage and Legacy Foundation, formed for the purpose of preserving and protecting native Hawaiian cultural and historical sites of Kalaeloa, will use the funds for the 2nd Annual Kalaeloa Heritage Park Luau Fundraiser on July 23 at the park.
• The Kaneohe Business Group, which promotes civic responsibility and the welfare of Kāneʻohe since 1969, will use the donation for the 16th annual Windward Hoʻolauleʻa celebration on Oct. 1 at Windward Community College (WCC). For more than a decade, Hawaiian Electric has been a major sponsor of the popular event that fosters community pride and raises funds for WCC scholarships and programs.
• Kualoa-Heʻeia Ecumenical Youth (KEY) Project will use the funds to continue providing services for at risk youth, seniors and those in need through its Community center complex located in Koʻolaupoko.
• Na Wahine O Ke Kai Association will use the donation for the 2016 women’s Molokaʻi to Oʻahu canoe race on Sept. 25.
• Waiʻanae Coast Community Foundation, which seeks to improve the quality of life for residents along the Waiʻanae Coast, will bring back the popular Sunset on the Beach event with the aid of Hawaiian Electric’s donation. The “Rediscover Sunset on the Beach” is currently planned for Sept. 24-25.
• Waipahu Community Association, whose mission is to ensure Waipahu will be an attractive place to live, work, visit and do business, will use the funds for the 11th Annual Taste of Waipahu on Nov. 5.
To date in 2016, Hawaiian Electric has provided nearly $400,000 in corporate contributions to nonprofit, business and community organizations across Oʻahu in support of health and human services, economic growth, arts and culture, education, environmental and community programs.
