Pearl City shuts out Roosevelt 27-0, honors the late K. Mark Takai

During the Pearl City Chargers  27-0 shut out victory over the Roosevelt Rough Riders Friday night at Ticky Vasconcellos Stadium in Makiki, the Chargers wore purple ribbons to honor the late K. Mark Takai who passed away on July 20, 2016.

"The ribbons are just to support and honor Mark Takai and his family," said Chargers head coach Robin Kami. "He's an alumni of Pearl City and a big supporter of Pearl City Athletics. My coaches are wearing the ribbons and the players are wearing them on their helmets to honor him. He was a big supporter and we all miss him."

The Chargers wore the ribbons with pride and played a spirited game in the victory over Roosevelt. The Chargers improved to 2-0 in the Oahu Interscholastic Association Division 2 regular season rankings. Roosevelt pulled even at 1-1 in league play.

Pearl City QB Kekainalu Simon completed 4 of 14 passes for 103 yards and 3 touchdowns. Calvin Mock caught 2 passes for 43 yards and 2 touchdowns. Charles Freitas, 1 reception for 33 yards,  Patrick Nunez, 1 reception for 27 yards and 1 touchdown.

Charles Freitas also pounded out 91 yards on 17 carries to lead the Chargers ground game.

Roosevelt Rough Riders running back Charvis Paia rushed for 94 yards on 14 carries.

Roosevelt recorded -2 yards through the air against the Chargers stingy defense.

Chargers special teams and defense played tough Friday night forcing several key turnovers with Kasey Kikuyama recording two fumble recoveries, Elijah Parrish one fumble recovery, Kasey Villalon and Bradden Schmidt one forced fumble each, Carson Hernandez one sack,  and Jayden Madariaga with one pic.

Pearl City returns to action against Kalaheo at Kailua High School on Friday, August 26.

quarter that gave the Chargers a 6-0 lead heading to the second quarter of play.

30 yard touchdown toss and reception with 11:16 on the clock in the

second quarter. The Chargers led the Rough Riders 12-0 at the half.
