The Chargers 2016 OIA Division 2 Varsity Football post season came to end last night after a disappointing, hard fought battle with the Marauders in front of a packed Aiea stadium crowd that braved the inclement weather to cheer on their schools.

Waipahu got on the scoreboard first on an 11 yard run by Alfred Failauga and PAT by Isaiah Harris at 6:10 on the clock in the first quarter.

Pearl City answered to tie the game at 7-7 on a 3 yard touchdown run by Charles Freitas and a PAT by Zameer Kahn with 3:09 remaining in the first quarter.

The game remained tied until Waipahu's AJ Contado bursts into the end zone scoring on a 1 yard run with :15 seconds remaining on the game clock to put the Marauders up 13-7. The PAT was missed.

Waipahu QB Braden Amorozo completed 6 of 18 passes for 68 yards and one INT.

Pearl City QB Isaiah Asinsin completed 10 of 23 for 63 yards with 3 INT's. Calvin Mock was Asinsin's most productive receiver hauling in 7 catches for 53 yards.

Waipahu running back Alfred Failauga was unstoppable against the Chargers with a solid performance to lead all ball carriers gaining 150 yards on 22 carries with one touchdown. Failauga also caught one pass for 27 yards. AJ Contado rushed for 8 yards on 3 carries with one touchdown.

Charles Freitas led the Chargers ground game rushing for 83 yards on 10 carries with one touchdown before leaving the game with a leg injury. Patrick Nunez 5-55, and Andre Carter 9-44 rounded out the Chargers rushing totals.

Waipahu moves on to face Waialua for the 2016 OIA D2 Football Championship Title scheduled for next Friday, October 28, 2016 at Aloha Stadium. Waialua defeated Kaimuki 19-14 last night at Kaiser High School to advance to the championship.

Waipahu and Waialua both qualified to represent the OIA in the D2 State Football Championship Tournament.
