Pearl City suffered their first loss of the OIA Western Division regular season after going down to Kapolei 9-3 on Saturday at Kapolei High School. Kapolei exploded for six runs in the bottom of sixth inning that broke a 3-3 tie for the victory.
Zachary Collins picked up the win in 1 2/3 innings of relief for Kapolei starting pitcher Drayden Kawehiwehi who pitched 5 2/3 innings allowing 3 hits, 3 runs, 3 walks, and 2 strikeouts. Collins allowed no runs, no hits with 3 strikeouts to close it out for the Hurricanes.
Marcus Boyles took the loss in 2 innings of relief for Chargers starting pitcher Brannon Liu.

The Chargers entered the top of the sixth inning trailing Kapolei 3-2. Matt Aribal hit a one out single to get on base. Davin Kapuras walked. Christian Onomura sac bunted moving the runners up in scoring position at second and third. Kaleb Nishijo hit a grounder that scored Aribal from third to tie the game at 3-3. The Chargers stranded two runners on base to end the inning.
Bottom 6
Dionisio Tapat led off the bottom of the inning with a smash to centerfield that landed Tapat on third base representing the Hurricanes go-ahead run. Kyler Nakashima stepped up to the plate and drove in Tapat that broke the tie and began the Hurricanes 6 run rally. The Hurricanes loaded the bases and took a 5-3 lead on Adam Berg's RBI single. Kapolei scored one more run before Cobey Fujii broke the game wide open with a 3 RBI double off of Pearl City reliever Cade Helemanu that put the Hurricanes up 9-3.
*The Chargers return to the road against Leilehua on Friday, March 3 with first pitch scheduled for 3:00pm.
