Pearl City powers past rival Aiea 9-4

Pearl City defeated Aiea 9-4 in Oahu Interscholastic Association Western Division Varsity Baseball played on Wednesday at Pearl City High School.

The Chargers put together a potent rally in both the fifth and sixth innings for the win.  The Chargers scored four runs in the bottom of the fifth inning that broke a 3-3 tie. Cade Halemanu broke the tie with a two-run homerun. The Na Ali'i scored one run in the top ot the sixth inning, but the Chargers picked up two more runs in the bottom of the sixth to take a 9-4 lead which proved to be a sizeable lead for the win.

Pearl City's Jansen Shigeta earned the win in relief of starter Caleb Young. Shigeta pitched 2/3 inning allowing 1 run on 2 hits. Young pitched 4 2/3 innings allowed 2 runs on 3 hits with 1 strikeout and 1 walk. Dillin Hasegawa pitched the fifth and sixth innings allowing 1 run on 2 hits.

Aiea's Kobe Kato took the loss for the Na Ali'i in relief of starter Colby Narciso. Kato pitched 3 innings allowing 6 runs on 6 hits with 1 strikeout. Narciso pitched 3 innings allowing 3 runs on 5 hits with 1 strikeout and 4 walks.

Cade Halemanu led the Chargers at the plate hitting 2-3 with a homerun, 4 RBI and 2 runs scored. Davin Kapuras batted 2-3 with a double, 2 RBI and 2 runs scored. Christian Pacrem went 2-3 with a triple, RBI and 1 run scored.

Ty Matsunami led the Na Ali'i at the plate hitting 2-3 with a triple, RBI and 1 run scored.

The Chargers and Na Ali'i pulled even at 3-3 in league play.  Next up for the Chargers is a road game at Waipahu to take on the Marauders on Saturday, March 18 at 1:00pm. The Na Ali'i will travel to Campbell to take on the eague leading Sabers on Saturday, March 18 with first pitch scheduled for 11:00am.
