10th inning rally advances Kailua past Pearl City 3-2

Kailua’s Jalen Ah Yat ended an extra-inning battle with Pearl City on Thursday after hitting the game winning RBI that drove in Cody Riturban to lift the Surfriders to a 3-2 victory over the Chargers in the quarterfinals of the Oahu Interscholastic Association playoffs at Kailua High School.

Ah Yat came through at the plate in the bottom of 10th inning driving in Riturban from third base with the bases loaded and no outs. Ah Yat ripped a pitch off of Pearl City relief pitcher Kulia Neal who had just entered the game in relief of Dillin Hasegawa with the bases full of Surfriders.

Joey Cantillo hit a two RBI single in the bottom of the seventh inning that erased a Pearl City 2-0 lead and sent the game off to extra innings tied at 2-2.

Pearl City got on the scoreboard with single runs in the fifth and sixth innings. Carter Hirano and Cade Halemanu scored both runs for the Chargers. The Chargers had a golden opportunity to score in the top of the 10th inning but left Jensen Kaya stranded on third base after Alihikaua Rodrigues went down on strikes.

Joey Cantillo got the start for the Surfriders pitching 7 2/3 innings while allowing two runs, four hits with 10 strikeouts and three walks. Ryan Inouye earned the win in 2 1/3 innings of relief allowing no runs, two hits and one strikeout.

Jansen Shigeta got the start for Pearl City pitching four innings while allowing no runs and four hits. Marcus Boyles pitched 1 2/3 innings allowing no runs and one hit in relief. Dillin Hasegawa took the loss pitching 3 1/3 innings allowing three runs, four hits, with one strikeout and four walks. Kulia Neal relieved Hasegawa in the bottom of the 10th inning and gave up the game winning hit with the winning run charged to Hasegawa..

Kailua advanced to semifinals and will face Mililani on Friday at Les Murakami Stadium with first pitch scheduled for 4:00pm. Campbell will take on Kalani in the night cap semifinal for 7:00pm.  Both semifinal games will be televised live on OC 16.

Pearl City will take on Moanalua on Friday in the consolation semifinals at Moanalua with first pitch scheduled for 3:00pm.
