Moanalua took a big step forward in 2017 post-season play after securing a state tournament berth by defeating visiting Pearl City 5-2 on Thursday in an Oahu Interscholastic Association Division I varsity baseball consolation semifinal match-up. The Na Menehune will await the outcome of Kaiser vs. Kapolei to see who they will play in the consolation finals for fifth and sixth place in the OIA tournament. Thursday’s Kaiser vs. Kapolei game was rained out.

Campbell and Kailua will play for the 2017 OIA Championship on Friday at Les Murakami Stadium. Campbell defeated Kalani 11-1 and Kailua blew past Mililani 13-3 on Thursday in the semifinals to advance to the championship title game.

Christian Capinia earned the win for Moanalua. Capinia pitched 4 2/3 innings allowing one run on three hits with five strikeouts and two walks. Skylar Yamamoto picked up the save pitching 2 1/3 innings while allowing one run on two hits with one strikeout.

Marcus Boyles took the loss for the Chargers pitching two innings allowing one run on two hits with one strikeout. Caleb Young pitched two innings in relief of Boyles allowing three runs on three hits with two strikeouts and one walk. Kulia Neal pitched the fifth and sixth innings allowing one run on two hits.

Cody Isa 2-3, 2B, RBI, run; Tyler Trim 1-2, 2B, 2 RBI, run; Alex Heacox 1-2, RBI, made huge contributions at the plate for Moanalua.

Davin Kapuras led the Chargers at the plate hitting 2-3 with a run scored.
