How the West was Won, Lady Chargers Composure & Teamwork!

Apr 16, 2017 | PC Sports

Composure and Teamwork has driven the success of the Pearl City Lady Chargers softball team during the regular season and will play into the post season equation as the Lady Chargers head off to the OIA championship playoffs after defeating the visiting Mililani Lady Trojans on Saturday 8-7. The win crowned the Lady Chargers the OIA Western Division I softball champions and the #1 seed from the West.

The Lady Chargers put together a six-run bottom of the seventh inning rally that overcame a 7-2 Lady Trojans lead. Cheyne Obara won the game with a walk-off RBI single that scored her sister Darian Obara from third base with the winning run.

Tyanna Peanut Butter Kaaialii earned the win for the Lady Chargers pitching 6 2/3 innings while allowing seven runs on eight hits and two strikeouts.

Composure and Teamwork, a potent mix of Lady Charger Pride and Success

Chad Obara, Lady Chargers Head Coach

“The best thing about today’s win is that we sewed up the #1 seed for the West. That’s best the thing about it. The seniors, instead of all this senior day stuff, they’ll take this win any day over all that stuff. Composure has been our thing the whole season. We’ve been talking to them about keeping their composure and don’t panic, stay calm, and just go play the game and hopefully things will turn out. Moving forward, the parody this year is still there. We need to be sharp every day. We need to play consistent ball and stay even keel and avoid the roller coaster. We need to stay on a steady train and keep going.”

Tyanna PB Kaaialii – Winning Pitcher – Lady Charger Senior

“We feel really confident in each other. We know we have the tools and we know have the ability to win against good teams like Mililani, and that’s what we do. Today’s win on senior day was very emotional and feels really good. We got one of our three goals and now we need to get the other two.”

Cheyne Obara – Hit game winning RBI single

“I was just happy that my teammates got on base for me to get that opportunity. All we do is talk about composure and I just kept my composure in the box and just got the job done. Everything is a team win, everything is a team loss. We do everything together, we win and lose together. I’m just happy that I had them behind my back.”

Darian Obara – Scored game winning run – Lady Charger Senior

“I’m extremely proud of my sister, I know it was a nerve racking situation for her, but she kept her composure and got the job done for the team. It definitely felt good getting on base so that Cheyne could have the opportunity to score us, and everyone before for me did a great job  getting on base too. We wouldn’t have won today if everyone didn’t get on base the way they did.”
