After Thursday and Friday rainouts, the Pearl City Lady Chargers (10-2) and Kapolei Lady Hurricanes (4-10) finally got their OIA DI softball quarterfinal playoff game in the books on Saturday with the Lady Chargers defeating the Lady Hurricanes 2-1 at Sand Island Park.  The Lady Chargers put together a two-run, two-out rally on back-to-back singles in the bottom of the sixth inning to come from behind and seal the quarterfinal win and the opportunity to advance to Monday’s semifinals against Campbell (11-3) at McKinley High School.  W3 Campbell shut-out E-2 Kailua 8-0 on Thursday, April 20 to advance to the semifinals.

With two-outs in the bottom of the sixth inning, Pearl City’s Hailey-Alexis Yamaguchi drove in Kylie Tasaki from third base with a RBI single that tied the game at 1-1. Darian Obara moved up to third base in scoring position on the play and would score the winning run on an RBI single by Tyanna Kaaialli.

Tyanna Kaaialii also earned the win for the Lady Chargers pitching seven complete innings while allowing one run on three hits with three strikeouts and six walks. Kapolei ace hurler Sadie Kapaku-You took the loss in a true pitcher’s duel allowing two runs on four hits with two strikeouts and five walks

The Lady Chargers completed a 3-0 sweep of the Lady Hurricanes during the regular and post-season. The strength of the West will be well represented in Monday’s semifinals with W1 Pearl City, W2 Mililani, and W3 Campbell, joining East champion and #1 seed Roosevelt in the final four.

Pearl City and Campbell have both traded positions in being ranked #1 in both the Honolulu Advertiser and Scoringlive top 10 state polls with the Lady Chargers currently occupying the top spot with a 10-2 record. The Lady Chargers own a 2-0 regular season sweep of Campbell, and a 1-1 regular season split with Mililani.

Pearl City, Mililani, Campbell, and Roosevelt have all earned berths in the 12-team Division I HHSAA State Softball Championship Tournament scheduled for May 3-6 at the University of Hawaii's Wahine Softball Stadium
