#1 Lunas ground high-flying Chargers 20-7

#1 ranked and defending Division 2 state champions Lahainaluna, stopped #5 Pearl City 20-7 in preseason varsity football played on Saturday at Pearl City High School's Edwin Bino Neves Stadium. Both defenses held opposing offenses to a combined total net offense of 342 yards in a tough battle that forced multiple turnovers that dramatically effected the final score.

Lahainaluna gave the ball up early in the first quarter on an interception by Pearl City's Aidan Fernandes off of Lahainaluna QB Etuati Storer. Pearl City scored the games first touchdown eight plays later on a one yard sneak by Charger QB Isaiah Asinsin. Zameer Kahn converted the PAT to put the Chargers up 7-0. Lahainaluna scored on a 6 yard touchdown run by Joshua Tihada with 3:16 remaining in the second quarter. The Lunas muffed the snap on the PAT attempt. The Chargers went into the half leading the Lunas 7-6.

In the second half, Lahainaluna took a 12-7 lead early in the third quarter on a 33 yard touchdown run by Elijah Regudo. The Lunas came up short on a two-point conversion attempt. Lahainaluna scored again late in the third quarter on a six yard run up the middle by QB Storer. Elijah Regudo converted the two-point conversion on a run around the right side of the Chargers defense that put the Lunas up for good at 20-7.

Lahainaluna QB Etuati Storer completed 5 of 13 passes for 44 yards with 2 INT's and one rushing touchdow

Pearl City Chargers QB Isaiah Asinsin completed 8 0f 25 passes for 60 yards with 3 INT's, and one rushing touchdown.

Kasey Kikuyama led all rushers picking up 56 yards on 8 carries with a long of 28 yards for the Chargers.

Joshua Tihada, Elijah Ragudo, and Etuati Storer scored a touchdown apiece for Lahainaluna.

The Chargers open the OIA D2 regular season this Saturday, August 12 against Kalani at Roosevelt High School. JV kicks off at 4:00pm with the varsity to follow 25 minutes after the outcome of the JV game.

Saturday's Lahainaluna vs. Pearl City match-up was a hard hitting contest from start

to finish. Pearl City defensive back Aidan Fernandes is pictured making a first quarter

stop on Lahainaluna running back Joshua Tihada. Both Fernandes and Tihada made key

plays that led to points being put on the scoreboard. Fernandes picked off Lahainaluna

QB Etuati Storer early in the first quarter that led to Pearl City's first touchdown that

put the Chargers up 6-0. Tihada got the Lunas on the scoreboard on a six yard 

touchdown run late in the second quarter.
