Pearl City's Makoa Cooper scored on a 15 yard touchdown run in overtime to defeat Kalani 22-16 on Saturday to open the 2017 OIA varsity football D2 regular season at Roosevelt High School.
Cooper pounded out 94 yards on 19 carries with 1 touchdown.
Pearl City kicker Zameer Kahn went 3 for 3, hitting on field goals of 33, 25, and 29 yards.
Pearl City also scored on a 24 yard touchdown pass from Micah Quillopo-Jamile to Dayton Hernandez with 4:01 left in the second quarter.
Kalani had a chance to win the game with time running out in the fourth quarter after pulling even at 16-16 on Joshua Titialii's 7 yard touchdown reception from Falcon QB Seth Tina-Sobarano on fourth and goal with 0:47 remaining in regulation play. The Falcons missed the PAT to force overtime.
Pearl City scored on their first possession in overtime for the win.
