Celebrate Arbor Day Plant a free tree!

Oct 29, 2017 | PC Community

Arbor Day is upon us, right in time for the start of the rainy season—the perfect time to plant a tree. So why not pick up a free tree or shrub at the Hawaiian Electric Arbor Day Tree Giveaway, at 9 a.m., on Saturday, November 4, at six locations across O‘ahu.

Of course we’re lucky to have the U.H. Urban Garden Center giveaway site in our neighborhood, where 3,000 plants were propagated for this island-wide event. Each giveaway site will have 500 plants to give away, one per family.

You can select from among your favorite flowering trees and shrubs, beautiful native plants, and seven fruit trees, plus the Hawaiian chili pepper plant.

This marks the 25th year that Hawaiian Electric has been celebrating Arbor Day, thanks to the support of its partners, the U.H. Urban Garden Center, Kaulunani Urban and Community Forestry Program, Wahiawā Botanical Garden, and Waimea Valley

Arborists and O‘ahu Master Gardeners will be at each giveaway site to answer your gardening questions. Representatives from the Future Farmers of America, Kaulunani Urban and Community Forestry Program, Mālama Learning Center, and Outdoor Circle will be joining the giveaway at select sites.

Remember that the new Arbor Day giveaway starting time is 9 a.m.—so don’t line up too early.

The U.H. Urban Garden Center is also holding a plant sale.
