Proceeds to benefit Aloha United Way

Everyday Recipes for Everyday Energy, Hawaiian Electric’s new cookbook to raise funds for Aloha United Way, is now available. The soft cover, spiral-bound collection of more than 100 kitchen-tested recipes from employees, retirees and their families is $14 and includes a foldable stand feature for hands-free viewing. All proceeds from the sale of the cookbook will help benefit Aloha United Way and its partner agencies that provide programs, services and resources to build a stronger, healthier community.

This latest cookbook highlights favorite “go-to” recipes for energizing busy lives using pantry staples, local produce, popular seasonings, and homegrown ingenuity in the kitchen. For example, a Spicy Spam Slider pairs Hawaiian sweet rolls with the ubiquitous canned meat and a dab of Sriracha mayonnaise for a unique twist on a popular item. A can of cola tops off a Korean Slow Cooker Pulled Pork dish, while lumpia wrappers are stuffed and fried to golden perfection as an Apple Pie Dessert and Banana Lumpia.

Novice and experienced home cooks will appreciate the simple categorized format and tips for saving energy in the kitchen. While some recipes may be more complex, such as a Shrimp Creole dish or a Pozole Rojo, the step-by-step directions are easy to follow.

Just for the holidays, gift-wrapped copies of the cookbook will be available in limited quantities at these holiday craft fairs:
