The Pearl City Chargers junior varsity baseball program commenced their 2017-2018 volunteer efforts in serving the Pearl City community with stop on Saturday, December 2 at both the Don Quijote Store and Longs Drugs Store at the Pearl City Shopping Center. Pearl City Chargers Head Baseball Coach, Wes Yonamine and his coaching staff supervised the players as they volunteered for a few hours bagging groceries as well as greeting customers and handing out store special sale item flyers.

Yonamine, who is entering his inaugural season year the skipper of the Pearl City Chargers varsity and junior varsity baseball program, has instilled in his players from Day 1, the importance of being active in the community by giving back while representing their school as a Pearl City Charger student athlete.

Community relationships and partnerships between Pearl City businesses such as Don Quijote and Longs Drugs, and the Pearl City Chargers is the key to the kids learning the importance of giving back, while experiencing first hand, the positive results their volunteer commitments have on the community and the residents that they serve.

"We are very thankful to both Don Quijote and Longs Drugs Store for allowing our Charger junior varsity baseball players and coaches the opportunity to serve their community while helping out at their stores on Saturday," said Yonamine. "We have an excellent group of kids who are focused on making a difference in the classroom and in their community. Excelling in the classroom and community will play an integral role in securing a solid foundation for success on the baseball field and beyond."

“A big Mahalo to you and the Chargers for helping with our store yesterday” said Julian. "We greatly appreciate all your folk’s help and I hope that the players were able to gain some life values and become more well-rounded individuals. I admire your efforts in encouraging the younger generation to learn values that cannot be taught in the classrooms. Please also extend my thanks to the head coach, the other assistant coaches, the players, and the school principal.
