Pearl City takes down Campbell 3-1 in 12 innings

Pearl City's Carter Hirano hit a game winning 2 RBI double in the top of the 12th inning to lift the Chargers over previously undefeated Campbell 3-1 on Wednesday in a classic OIA Western Division showdown played at Campbell High School.

Hirano was a force at the plate for the Chargers hitting 3-5 with a double and 2 RBI.

Pearl City ace Cade Halemanu and Campbell ace Jamin Kalaola went head to head with both pitchers coming away with no decisions in the contest.

Helemanu pitched 6 complete innings while allowing 1 run on 3 hits with 6 strikeouts and 5 walks. Jamin Kalaola pitched 7 complete innings while allowing 1 run on 4 hits with 3 strikeouts and no walks.

Pearl City's Alika Almaraz earned the win for the Chargers in relief of Halemanu pitching 5 complete innings while allowing no runs on runs on 2 hits with 2 strikeouts and 4 walks.

Jansen Shigeta earned the save in 1 inning of work to close it out for the Chargers.

Campbell jumped out on top early scoring 1 run in the bottom of the first inning. The Chargers tied the game in the top of the fourth inning after Sam Prentice reached second base on a double and came home to tie the game at 1-1 on a double by Cade Halemanu.

Hirano drove in Christian Pacrem and Kendric Nakamura with his top of 12th inning game winning 2 RBI double.

Pearl City and Campbell both sit at 2-1 in league standings.

Next up:

Campbell will travel to Kapolei to take on the Hurricanes on Saturday, March 10 with first pitch scheduled for 3:00pm.

The Chargers will hit the road to battle Leilehua at Wahiawa Middle School Field on Saturday, March 10 with first pitch scheduled for 3:00pm.
