Focused on a OIA West title, Campbell 10 Pearl City 0 (F/6)

Campbell pitching ace Jamin Kalaola provided the firepower from the mound, and also joined his Sabers teammates in mounting  a 10 run, 10 hit assault on Pearl City pitchers to come away with a 10-0 (F/6) road win in Oahu Interscholastic Association Western Division I baseball played on Friday at Pearl City High School. The win kept the Sabers in first place in the league standings at 8-1. The Chargers are tied with Mililani in second place at 6-3.

Kalaola earned the victory pitching 5 complete innings while allowing no runs on 4 hits with 3 strikeouts and 1 walk. Kalaola also batted 1-2 with 2 RBI for the Sabers. Darien Robinson pitched the sixth inning in relief of Kalaola to close it out for the Sabers. Robinson allowed 1 hit with 1 strikeout and 2 walks.

Jansen Shigeta took the loss for the Chargers pitching 2 2/3 innings while allowing 4 runs on 7 hits with 1 strikeout and 1 walk. Alika Almaraz allowed 4 runs on 2 hits with 1 strikeout and 2 walks in 2 innings of relief for the Chargers.  Kulia Neal pitched 1 1/3 innings allowing 2 runs on 1 hit.

Nicholas Sampson led the Sabers explosion at the plate hitting 3-3 with 3 RBI and 3 runs scored. Ikaika Ganacial 2-3, 2 RBI, run, and Roy Clemons-Diaz 2-3, double, run,  had solid performances while contributing to the Sabers success on offense.

Carter Hirano went 2-3 to lead the Chargers.

Both teams have three important games remaining in their regular season schedules with the Sabers putting themselves in a good position to capture the OIA Western Division league title with Friday’s win over the Chargers.

Ansley Issacs-Costa got on base on a two out walk. Next batter Roy Clemons-Diaz hit a single into left field putting runners on first and second. Next batter Nicholas Sampson hit a RBI single scoring Issacs-Costa from second base with the first run of the ball game. Next batter Rory Escuadro grounded out for the third out leaving runners stranded on second and third.  1-0

Dylan Ramon hit a lead-off single into center field. Darien Robinson entered the game as pinch runner for Ramon at first base. Robinson advanced to second on a steal. Next batter Charles Monell laid down a bunt and took first base on a wild throw. Robinson moved up to third base on the play. Ansley Issacs-Costa grounded out for the first out. Monell moved up to second putting both Robinson and Monell in scoring position. Next batter Roy Clemons-Diaz flied out for the second out. Next batter Nicholas Sampson hit a 2 RBI single scoring Robinson and Monell that put the Sabers up 3-0 over the Chargers. Rory Escuadro hit a single and took second base on a bad throw.  Sampson moved up to third base. Jamin Kalaola hit a RBI single scoring Sampson from third. Campbell took a 4-0 lead. Campbell had runners on first and third with two outs. The Chargers made a pitching change bringing in Alika Almaraz in relief of Jansen Shigeta. Almaraz got the first batter he faced,  Varen Sabino to fly out for the third out. The Sabers left two runners on base.  4-0 Sabers.

TOP 5

Roy Clemons-Diaz powered a lead-off double to left field. Next batter Nicholas Sampson hit a single putting runners on first and second with no outs. Runners moved up to second and third on a bad throw to first base. Rory Escuadro hit a sac fly to right field scoring  Clemons-Diaz from third. Sampson scored the second run of inning on a sac fly to centerfield.  Monell walked. Monell advanced to second on a pass ball at the plate.  Pinch hitter Bryden Malama walked. The Sabers had runners on first and second with two outs. The Chargers made a pitching change bringing in Kulia Neal in relief of Almaraz. Neal beaned Dylan Ramon to load the bases. Next batter Charles Monell hit a pop fly to Sam Prentice in right field that was dropped allowing Monell and Malama to score. Next batter Darien Robinson grounded out for the third out. The Sabers stranded one runner on base. Sabers increased their lead over the Chargers to 8-0.

TOP 6

Neal beaned Roy Clemons-Diaz to lead off the inning. Next batter Nicholas Sampson got on base putting runners on first and second with no outs. Runners advanced to second and third in scoring position. Rory Escuadro pounded a hard hit grounder that got away from Matt Aribal at shortstop allowing the runner to score from third base. The Sabers went up 9-0. Cody-Allen Ramit flied out for the first out of the inning. Escuadro advance to second base.  The Sabers had runners on second and third in scoring position with one out.  Next batter Shayden Banaay hit a RBI sac fly to left field scoring Sampson from third that put the Sabers up 10-0. Next batter flied out for the third out.  The Sabers left one runner on base.

BOTTOM 6

Campbell brought in Darien Robinson to close it out for the Sabers. The Chargers loaded the bases but couldn’t bring in any runs. The 10-run rule was enforced after six complete innings.
