Chargers go down to Kailua 1-0 in OIA championship tourney semifinals

The Chargers lost to Kailua 1-0 yesterday afternoon in the semifinals of the OIA Division I Baseball Championship Tournament played at Les Murakami Stadium.

Dakota Kadooka picked up the game winning RBI in the bottom of second inning that scored pinch runner Brandon Sarae. Sarae entered the game as a pinch runner for Kalua Neves who led off the inning with a single into right field. Next batter laid down a bunt advancing Neves to second base. The Surfriders had runners on first and second. Next batter Stone Parker sac bunted moving the runners to second and third. Next batter Dakota Kadooka drove in Sarae from third base with the winning run on a RBI sac fly to left field.

Bryson Ballesteros earned the win for Kailua pitching seven complete innings while allowing no runs, one hit with eight strikeouts and four walks.

Kulia Neal took the loss for the Chargers pitching six complete innings while allowing one run on five hits with one strikeout and one walk.

Kalua Neves led the Surfriders at the plate hitting 2-3 with a double and run scored.

Shawn Iwane picked up the Chargers only hit of the ball game.

The Chargers will play Campbell today at Campbell High School at 1:00pm for third place in the championship tournament. Campbell lost to Mililani last night 6-5 in the night cap of the semifinal doubleheader played at Les Murakami Stadium.

Mililani will take on Kailua tonight at 6:00pm for the championship title.
