Lady Chargers hold off Castle 8-7 to advance to OIA championship quarterfinals

Congratulations to the Lady Chargers who held off Castle 8-7 on Wednesday in the first round play of the 2018 Oahu Interscholastic Association Division I Softball Championship Tournament played at Pearl City High School.

The Lady Chargers advanced to the championship tournament quarterfinals and will face Roosevelt on Thursday at Roosevelt with first pitch scheduled for 3:00pm.

Pearl City's Alexas Presto-Ahsing picked up the win for the Lady Chargers. Presto-Ahsing pitched 4 1/3 innings while allowing 6 runs on 7 hits with 1 strikeout. Jozayah Iriarte earned the save pitching 2 2/3 innings while allowing 1 run on 2 hits with 1 strikeout and 1 walk.

Mele Turner took the loss for Castle. Turner pitched 4 1/3 innings while allowing 6 runs on 3 hits with 6 strikeouts and 7 walks. Lauryn Kong pitched 1 2/3 innings in relief of Turner allowing 2 runs on 4 hits with 1 strikeout.

Winning pitcher Presto-Ahsing also led the Lady Chargers at the plate hitting 2-2 with a RBI. Tiari Hernandez batted 1-3 with double, RBI, and 2 runs scored.

Castle's Rayla Keanu powered her way to a 2-3 performance at the plate with 2 home runs, 4 RBI, and 2 runs scored.

Taylor Au scored the first run of the ball game on a bases loaded walk in the bottom

of the first inning. The Lady Chargers scored four runs in the inning to take a 4-0 lead.
