Pearl City defeats Mililani 6-4 to finish fifth in OIA Championship Tourney

The Lady Chargers captured fifth place in the 2018 Oahu Interscholastic Association Division I Softball Championship Tournament after defeating the visiting Mililani Lady Trojans 6-4 on Monday at Pearl City High School. Both Pearl City (10-6) and Mililani (7-9) earned berths into next week’s HHSAA State Division I Softball Championship Tournament.

Maiyah Falefine-Lesu picked up the win for the lady Chargers.  Falefine-Lesu  pitched 5 1/3 innings while allowing three runs on six hits with three strikeouts and one walk. Jozayah Iriarte earned the save in relief.

Joie Baker took the loss for the Lady Trojans. Baker pitched 2 2/3 innings while allowing five runs on nine hits with three strikeouts and three walks. Serenity Jackson pitched 3 1/3 innings in relief of Baker.

The Lady Chargers pounded out 13 hits in the ball game.  Tiari Hernandez had a great day at the plate for the Lady Chargers hitting 2-3 with a homerun, double, 3 RBI and a run scored. Braelynn Kaulu-Choy Foo went 2-4 with a double and run scored. Winning pitcher Maiyah Falefine-Lesu also contributed at the plate for the Lady Chargers hitting 2-3 with a double. Taryn Fijioka was a perfect 3-3 at the plate. Noel Saunders went 1-2 with a double, RBI and run scored. Jozayah Iriarte batted 1-1 with 2 runs scored. Taylor Au went 1-3 with 2 RBI.

Ashlyn Kashma batted 2-2 with a double and run scored for the Lady Trojans. Tracie Okumura batted 1-4 with a double and a run scored. Katie Carlos batted 1-3 with 3 RBI and a run scored. Kobie Brown went 1-2 with a RBI. Kayla Bello batted 1-2. Kamie Matsukawa went 1-2.

Braelynn Kaulu-Choy Foo stroked a double for the Lady Chargers first hit of the

ball game in the bottom of the first inning. Kaulu-Choy Foo's double put lead off

batter Noel Saunders and Kaulu-Choy Foo in scoring position at second and third.
