Keiki Swap Meet, a great experience!

Summer time usually means fun time.  Children either go to Summer Fun, Summer School and camping.  I remember growing up, my mom would take us to Bishop Museum, the beach, Chuck E Cheese, and many other fun and educational places.  She also introduced us to the Children's Discovery Center Keiki Swap Meet that was held at the Kakaako Waterfront Park.

I remember our first time doing it.  It was really fun.  Before the event my mom made us clean up the house and whatever we didn't need anymore we earned money by selling them at the Keiki Swap Meet.  I felt that it was an educational experience for me.  I learned how to greet and take care of our customers and how to handle money.  My mom said it helped me do well in Math and it taught me that you have to work hard for the money.

I decided that I wanted my nephews to experience the Keiki Swap Meet too.  The only thing I was worried about was being that they have special needs, would they be able to stay the whole time there without getting a melt down or just take off?

I would like to send a BIG MAHALO to Ms. Val,  for allowing my nephews to participate in this awesome event.  Even though they didn't quite understand it, they were very personable to their customers and they lasted the whole 3 hours without having a ,meltdown.  It was just a wonderful day in Hawaii Nei.

Some of the money my nephews earned today will be donated to my sister, Kamalanimalie and Aloha Hula who are working hard to raise money and represent Hawaii as the first hula dancers at a 4 day Broadway Tour in New York at the end of next month.  Spotlight has given Aloha Hula a partial Scholarship Award for them to attend when they won at the Spotlight Dance Cup Regional held at Kaimuki High School at the end of last month.

Thank you,

Kekoa
