Taira leads Waipio over Pearl City 10-5 in Hawaii D7 Minors Little League Championship Opener

Waipio defeated Pearl City 10-5 in the opening round of the Hawaii District 7 Minors Little League Championship Tournament on Friday in front of a packed Pearl City District Park Stadium.

Jayven Taira looked tough on the mound picking up the win for Waipio. Kevin Ujimori got the start for Pearl City.

Waipio advances in the winner’s bracket of the championship tournament to face Ewa Beach on Saturday with first pitch scheduled for 12:00pm. Pearl City and Waialua will kick off Saturday’s doubleheader action in the loser’s bracket with first pitch scheduled for 9:00am.

hits to take an early 3-0 lead heading to the bottom of the first inning.

Pearl City’s Cohen Adaro stroked an RBI infield single that scored

Ian Wicklund to tie the game at 3-3 after one complete inning of play.

Both Pearl City and Waipio played great defense turning double plays along with

spectacular, athletic catches in the outfield. Pearl City third baseman Daniel Fujita

is pictured making the throw to first base in the top of the second inning.
