Roosevelt heads to OIA D2 Championship game after 23-7 win over Pearl City

Roosevelt advanced to the Oahu Interscholastic Association Division titlle game after defeating Pearl City 23-7 on Saturday at Roosevelt High School's Ticky Vasconcellos Stadium. Roosevelt (7-1, league, 9-2 overall) will face Kaimuki (8-0 league, 8-2 overall) in the championship title game on Saturday, October 27 at Aloha Stadium.

Roosevelt QB Sky Ogata led a potent Rough Riders ground game picking up 147 yards and 2 touchdowns. Roosevelts Myka Kukahiwa rushed for 66 yards on 3 carries and a touchdown. Mitchell Camacho picked up 62 yards on 16 carries for the Rough Riders. The Rough Riders rushed for a net 322 yards to the Chargers 31 net yards on the ground.  The Chargers recorded 95 yards of net passing to the Rough Riders 27 net passing yards.

The Chargers finished the season at 5-3 league, 6-5 overall. Roosevelt suffered their only loss of the regular season against Kaimuki 15-13 on August 17. Kaimuki deeated Kaiser on Saturday 30-14 to advance to the championship title game match-up with Roosevelt.

Mason Morishige booted through a 29 yard field goal to put the

Rough Riders on the scoreboard at 1:24 of the second quarter.

Sky Ogata scored two second half touchdowns on a 80 yard touchdown run at 4:10 of

the third quarter and on a 26 yard rushing touchdown at 10:24 of the fourth quarter.

Ogata is pictured scoring his second touchdown of the ball game in the fourth quarter that put

the Roughriders up 15-7. Brandon Teixiera converted the 2-point conversion on a pass to

Tamaki Iijima that increased the Rough Riders lead over the Chargers to 17-7. The Rough Riders

scored their final touchdown of the ball game on 59 yard touchdown run by Myka Kukahiwa at

6:13 of the fourth quarter.The PAT was blocked by Pearl City's RJ Kami. Roosevelt led 23-7.

The Chargers got on the scoreboard on a 21 yard touchdown pass from

Micah Quillopo-Jamile to Justin Pfau at 3:36 of the third quarter. Kyle Hyun

converted the PAT to close within 3 points of the Rough Riders lead at 9-7.

Roosevelts Myka Kukahiwa rushed for 66 yards and

also scored on a fourth quarter 59 yard touchdown run.
