I would like to thank Nikki Takai and the Pearl City High School ohana for inviting me to yesterday’s 2nd Annual Taste of Pearl City High held at the school's A&B courtyard (my old hangout – PCHS Class of '77).
Mahalo to the wonderful and talented PCHS student chefs from the school’s CAHSL, Culinary Arts, Health Sciences, and Leadership Academy who prepared ono dishes for everyone to enjoy. I was treated to everything on the menu. Wow, it was good! (I couldn't eat it all).
14 delicious dishes were prepared and served by the students.
Some of the dishes that were served are listed below:
Lau Lau Burger, Volcanic Poke, Local Style Chicken Wings, Carbonara Bread, Huli Huli Chicken Taco, Spicy Ahi Poke Bowl.
"This event was a success!" said Nikki Takai, Counselor for CAHSL, Culinary Arts, Health Sciences, and Leadership Academy. "All tickets were sold! The Culinary Art students created samples of dishes for students, teachers, and community members to taste. Throughout the past two weeks, the students have been promoting their dishes through the morning bulletin. The monies raised will help fund other projects that the Culinary Arts program will participate in. Ms Shawn Kimball is our Culinary Arts teacher that guided our students through the whole process! She and the students did such a wonderful job!"
"Big Mahalo to Kyle Miyashiro and his leadership team for getting everything set up, helping to coordinate, and letting the students speak on morning announcements,” said PCHS Culinary Arts teacher Ms Shawn Kimball. “Jamie Young and Debbie Watanabe; for spending the better part of the day working alongside students and helping to organize and pull everything together.
By popular vote the winner is Carbonara Bread created by Alexandrea Sengbounovong and Rianne Sagadraca. As the winning team their dish will be featured at Outrigger's Reef Bar & Market Grill; and a dinner with their families and their chef mentor Mark Okamoto from Outrigger. Congratulations! They were one of the best prepared teams and are very deserving of this honor."
I was honored to join Senator Clarence Nishihara, Representative Gregg Takayama, and Councilman Brandon Elefante as we dined on the student's special culinary treats.
Mahalo!
