More than 20,000 students
In the second and third quarter of 2018, Hawaiian Electric contributed a total of $70,000 to support programs and initiatives aimed at advancing educational excellence for more than 20,000 students in grades K-12, including:
After School All-Stars, a free, after-school program serving disadvantaged middle-school students from WaiÊ»anae to PÄlolo
HawaiiKidsCAN, a youth advocacy group working to ensure access to high-quality education for Hawaiʻi keiki
Hui MÄlama O Ke Kai, an afterschool youth development and enrichment program for native Hawaiian students in the WaimÄnalo community
It’s Academic Hawaii, an academic showcase for public and private high school students through a quiz show format
KCAA Preschools of Hawaiʻi, for the Atherton Preschool in Kailua which focuses on equipping keiki from low socioeconomic backgrounds with the skills necessary to succeed in kindergarten and beyond
Teach for America Hawaiʻi, which reaches kids in underserved communities to ensure they have access to excellent education and prepares students to become authentic leaders grounded in the history, values and cultural diversity that make Hawaiʻi unique
Teach for America HawaiÊ»i (TFAH) is one of the six educational nonprofits that has received a corporate contribution from Hawaiian Electric which shares the organization’s commitment to educational excellence for HawaiÊ»i students. Above: Kotori Ota teaches third-grade special education students at MÄ‘ili Elementary through Teach For America Hawai‘i. The organization, which reaches kids in underserved communities, has 122 teachers working in 36 partner schools and more than 250 alumni in HawaiÊ»i.
