Ka Pilina o ka Hula me ka Ho'okanikapila started their new year off in the most spectacular way ever.  For years it's been a dream for them to dance on the Ala Moana Centerstage.  Their wish finally came true thanks to the executive director of Brown Bags To Stardom, Johnny Kai.  He invited them to be part of a night performance this past Saturday .  It was so special to be there. . it brought back memories for my family.  My mom used to dance on the Centerstage when it was located on the opposite side from where it is now.  My mom was 5 months pregnant with me in her belly.  My mom, my sisters, my Aunty, and Grandma performed  there when they used to dance for the Minierva Pang's Hula Halau under the direction of our beloved Kumu Hula of 62 years, Kupuna Pang. . Back then my mom's Hawaiian Studies students from Palisades Elementary would go to support and watch my mom dance.  My mom says she had a hard time focusing on performing because I'd kick her when she was dancing.

Thank you so much Johnny Kai for making Ka Pilina o ka Hula me ka Ho'okanikapila dream come true. .. . .a night they will always remember. . .

Sincerely,

Kekoa
