Lady Chargers and Lady Sabers battle to an 8-8 final in OIA softball

In dramatic fashion, the Pearl City Lady Chargers overcame a 8-4 deficit going into the bottom of seventh inning to rally for four runs and tie the Campbell Lady Sabers 8-8 and final score at the end of regulation play in OIA varsity softball played on Tuesday at Pear City High School. This season, games are ended after seven innings.

In the bottom of the seventh inning, Drew Hashimoto slammed a 2-run double to pull the Lady Chargers with 2 runs at 8-6. Tiari Hernandez hit her second homerun of the ball game with a booming 2-out 2-run shot to left field to tie the game at 8-8. Hernandez also blasted a solo homerun to left field to close within four runs of the Lady Sabers 8-4 in the bottom of the sixth inning.

Jewel Larson followed Hernandez at the plate in the bottom of seventh inning and smashed a pitch to deep centerfield that was caught by the centerfielder up against the fence for the third out.

Pearl City hitting specialists Taryn Fujioka got the Lady Chargers on the scoreboard 5-2 in the bottom of the third inning with a 2-run homerun. Fujioka batted 2-3 with a HR, double, 3 RBI and 1 run scored.

Tiari Hernandez went 2-4 with 2 HR, 3 RBI and 2 runs scored. Drew Hashimoto 1-3, double, RBI and a run scored; Jo-Zayah Iriarte 1-2, run scored.

Campbell’s Kaiana Kong hit a 3-run homerun to spark the Lady Sabers 5-run top of the third inning that gave the Lady Sabers a 5-0 lead. Lorraine Alo powered a 2-run homerun in the top of the sixth inning.

Kong hit 1-4 with a HR, 3 RBI and a run scored. Jayda Favela 2-4, run scored; Cairah Curran 1-4, run scored; Paige Nakashima 1-4, RBI, run scored; Lorraine Alo 1-2, HR, 3 RBI, run scored.

Campbell ace Taryn Irimata went the distance for the Lady Sabers pitching seven innings while allowing 8 runs, 6 hits, with 4 strikeouts.

Pearl City ace Jo-Zayah Iriarte got the start for the Lady Chargers pitching 5 innings, allowing 7 runs, 5 hits, and 3 strikeouts.

Grace Kikuchi pitched 2 innings in relief of Iriarte allowing 1 run, 2 hits, with 2 strikeouts.

The Lady Chargers return to action against the Kapolei Lady Hurricanes at Pearl City High School on Thursday, May 6 with first pitch scheduled for 4:00pm.
