Join Us, Saturday, Aug. 14, as Food Drive Day Goes Virtual!

Hawaii Foodbank’s flagship fundraising event goes virtual in an effort to help mitigate the recent COVID-19 surge.

Aloha dedicated Hawaii Foodbank supporters,

We wanted to reach out to you regarding the status of our flagship fundraising event Food Drive Day. In response to the recent surge of COVID-19 cases and reinstated restrictions statewide, we will now be holding our 32nd annual Food Drive Day virtually this year.

After careful consultation with local health leaders and state officials regarding the health and safety of our staff, loyal volunteers, longtime partners and the communities we serve – we believe this is the most responsible course of action. While we are saddened we cannot hold our flagship fundraising event in-person this year, but we are excited to offer three safe and easy ways for you to help nourish our ‘ohana on Saturday, Aug. 14.


If you and your family would still like to get involved on Food Drive Day. Here's how:
 

  • Donate Online – Because of our affiliation with Feeding America, we’re able to stretch your dollars further.  A donation of just $10 goes a long way — helping provide food for more than 20 meals.
     
  • Give Food Virtually – Our Virtual Food Drive platform allows you to donate some of our most-needed items from the safety and comfort of your home.
     
  • Advocate – Help spread the word by tagging @HawaiiFoodbank and using the hashtag #GiveByExample. Let your network know we are here as a reliable resource.


Food Drive Day plays an integral role in maintaining Hawaii Foodbank’s year-round food supply. 
 

Hunger in Hawaii is at its highest levels in almost a century. Hawaii’s unemployment rate remains among the highest in the country, and 1 in 6 Hawaii residents continue to struggle with hunger this year. This includes more than 81,000 children locally, who are now among the hardest hit populations in the entire United States.
 
Since the beginning of the pandemic last March, Hawaii Foodbank has distributed food for more than 27 million meals — serving nearly 60 percent more individuals compared to before the pandemic. To continue this level of distribution, Hawaii Foodbank's mission depends on donations from the community. As such, Food Drive Day is paramount to maintaining an adequate supply to those in need. Donations made each year on Food Drive Day better prepare Hawaii Foodbank for emergencies, hurricane season, natural disasters and other unexpected events like COVID-19.

The pandemic has taught our organization many things — how quickly circumstances can change and just how fragile food security can be. But it has also shown us just how resilient the people of Hawaii are. Time after time, we continue to see people step up and give by example. For all those reasons, it’s important for our community that we keep Food Drive Day going this year.

Hawaii continues to #GiveByExample, and so Food Drive Day is once again adapting by their example. We hope you'll join us, virtually, this Saturday, Aug. 14.
