PEARL CITY BEATS KALANI 7-3 TO REACH OIA DI BASEBALL CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE GAME

Apr 22, 2022 | PC Sports

The Pearl City Chargers once again dominated the opposition from the mound and at the plate with a 7-3 OIA DI Baseball Championship Playoff Semifinal win over OIA East Division Champion  Kalani tonight at Hans L ‘Orange Park in Waipahu.

I don’t think in all my years of covering OIA baseball that I have ever covered a team with a batting line up that can strike from  1-9 in the batting order which includes the starting pitcher.

From lead off through #9 in the order, the Chargers are potent and explosive at the plate with talented ball players that includes freshmen like Logan Honma and Jayson Au Hoy who are in the starting line-up and have played an integral role in the Chargers success during the regular season and now in the post season as the Chargers prepare to step up to the plate tomorrow night in the OIA Championship game.

Friday night the Chargers jumped on the Falcons for four runs in the first inning, two in the third, and one run in the sixth inning. The Falcons scored two runs in the third inning and one run in the seventh inning. The Chargers stayed  in front of the Falcons throughout the ball game.

Drew Boyles earned the win for the Chargers pitching  3 innings while allowing 2 runs, 3 hits with 3 strikeouts. Boyles also batted 1-2 with a double, Shaine Fujii pitched 4 innings in relief to earn the save. Fujii allowed 1 run, 1 hit with 1 strikeout.

Kalani’s  Logan Ouchi took the loss pitching 3 innings while allowing 6 runs, 8 hits with 5 strikeouts. Taichi Fujinaga pitched 4 innings in relief of Ouchi allowing 1 run, 2 hits with 5 strikeouts.

Pearl City’s Dacoda Agoto tore it up at the palate hitting 2-4, with a triple, 2 RBI, and a run scored. Eli Oshiro also showed his exceptional power at the plate hitting 1-4 with a triple. Freshman Jayson Au Hoy put on a clinic at the plate batting 2-4 with 1 RBI and 2 runs scored.

The Chargers will take on W1 Mililani who defeated E2 Kailua 13-3 (F5th) in tonight’s semifinal nightcap match-up on Saturday at 7:00pm at Hans L ‘Orange Park. The Chargers split the regular season with the Trojans.

CONGRATULATIONS AND GO CHARGERS!
