Agoto, Hayashi no-hit Moanalua 4-1, advances Pearl City to state baseball championship quarterfinals against #2 St. Louis

Agoto picked up the win pitching 6 complete innings allowing 1 run, no hits with an incredible 12 strikeouts. Agoto also contributed at the plate for Chargers batting 1-3. Hayashi earned the save closing out the seventh inning while allowing no runs, no hits with 2 strikeouts.

I got a great opportunity to chat with Chargers Assistant Coach Eric Boyles about the incredible 6 inning no-hit and 12 strikeout performance by Dacoda Agoto that led the Chargers past the Na Menehune. He had great control of his pitches as exhibited in the sixth inning. Agoto pitched out of a bases loaded top of the 6^th to put down the final 2 outs of the inning before Devin (Mariano Rivera) Hayashi came in and closed out the 7^th for the win.

“It was a great win, especially for Dacoda. To come out and perform like that after his last few outings where he struggled a little. But for him to come out and have this performance and strike out the first 7 batters and a total of 12 batters in six innings. We had the faith in him and we kind a had the feeling, let’s go with Dacoda today and see what he got. That’s basically what it came down to. I talked to him before the game and he wanted the ball and was ready to go.

Dacoda had good command of his curve and his fastball today. He was just hitting his corners and moving it around up and down. He had good velocity. He had it all today. We just felt like Moanalua was going to struggle with the little bit faster pitcher so that’s why we decided to go with Dacoda.

For him to end his pitching baseball career in high school with that performance is just incredible. It just goes to show all the hard work that he’s put in. He’s battled through adversity as has this whole team this season. Dacoda loaded the bases in the 6th inning, he had about 100 pitches and Coach Gary went out to talk to him and basically told him “you going to finish this”, and he said yup and got the next two guys out. That’s Dacoda.”

Today's no-hit win was Pearl City's second win over Moanalua in a couple weeks. Th Chargers beat the Na Menehune 10-3 in the quarterfinals of the OIA Championship Playoffs on April 21 at Pearl City High School.

Pearl City moves on to the championship tournament quarterfinals against #2 seed and ILH Champion St. Louis on Thursday with first pitch scheduled for 4:30pm at Iron Maehara Stadium. Winner advances to the championship semifinals on Friday at 4:30pm. The championship title game will be played on Saturday at 6:00pm.
