Damien wins classic preseason D2 battle over Pearl City 18-14

The Chargers lost a tough game Saturday night 18-14 against the visiting Damien Monarchs of the ILH in a non-league preseason Division 2 match-up.

Damien running back Sylas Alaimalo scored the winning touchdown on a 2 yard run to put the Monarchs up over the Chargers 18-14 late in the fourth quarter.

Monarch QB AJ Tuifua passed for 203 yards while completing 19 of 24 passes with 1 touchdown and 2 interceptions. Nalu Chinen-Sablan (3 catches for 49 yards) and Champ Buffett (4 catches, 1 touchdown) led Damien in receiving).

Peyton Dalmacio (98 yards on 15 rushes, 1 touchdown) and Sylas Alaimalo (50 yards on 8 rushes, 1 touchdown) both came up huge scoring key touchdowns with Alaimalo scoring the winning touchdown to carry Damien to victory over Pearl City.

Trey Dacoscos had a productive night as the Chargers starting QB passing for 200 yards while completing 20 of 39 passes with 1 touchdown and 2 interceptions. Dacoscos also led the Chargers on the ground rushing for 32 yards on 11 carries.

Lennon Elder led the Chargers in receiving hauling in 9 catches for 78 yards and 1 touchdown. Marcus Rodriguez caught 4 passes for 59 yards.

Pearl City’s defense came up big in the third quarter scoring on a Bobby Best 26 yard interception return to give the Chargers a 13-6 lead.  Marcus Rodriguez tacked on the PAT to go up 14-7 over the Monarchs.

The Chargers will hit the road on Saturday, August 20 to take on the Kaimuki Bulldogs at Farrington High School with kick-off scheduled to follow the Junior Varsity 4:00pm game.
